Description
The Center for Rare Hearing Disorders Göttingen is a special center of the Center for Rare Diseases Göttingen (ZSEG). The aim is to offer individual counseling for patients with (suspected) genetic hearing disorders on the basis of detailed clinical-audiological and molecular diagnostics. The primary aim is to narrow down the cause of the hearing loss as precisely as possible. This is the prerequisite for establishing new treatment strategies. Our particular focus is on auditory synaptopathy and auditory neuropathy. This special form of hearing loss is based on a disorder of sound coding by the inner hair cells and the cells of the auditory nerve and often manifests itself in an unusually severe impairment of hearing quality with relatively normal hearing thresholds.
Audiological diagnostics are carried out on an outpatient basis at the Department of Otolaryngology. For adults, this takes place in the outpatient clinic or the special consultation for diseases of the inner ear, for children in the Department of Phoniatrics and Pediatric Audiology. Human genetic testing is carried out at the Institute of Human Genetics. If necessary, further experts from other UMG departments are consulted. The joint evaluation and discussion of all findings is carried out in close cooperation with neuroscientific expertise from the Institute of Auditory Neurosciences in the interdisciplinary audiogenetics consultation.

Termine für umfassende Höruntersuchungen bei Erwachsenen in der Innenohrsprechstunde der Klinik für Hals- Nasen- Ohrenheilkunde sollten im voraus unter den u.g. Kontaktdaten vereinbart werden. Termine für humangenetische Untersuchungen können in der genetischen Beratungsstelle unter der u.g. Kontaktdaten vereinbart oder über die Innenohrsprechstunde vermittelt werden. Die Einbestellung zur interdisziplinären Audiogenetik-Sprechstunde erfolgt durch uns.
